Hi all. I am running the Greater Manchester Marathon in April for the MS Society. This is my first marathon, I've run a few halves and the Great South Run before but never run more than 15 miles before! One month into my training, seem to be making progress, two more to go. I'd like a sub 4 hr time although I am less than confident about that. Is anyone else running the Greater Manchester Marathon or run it before? Regards Andy |

Thanks for the reply Gordon. Well done on covering the distance, should set you up pretty well for the event. The Dundee Marathon sounds a pretty tough event? I've been building the mileage pretty slowly, last year I was comfortable at 14-15 miles but in Nov hurt my achilles running off road at night. Took a while out and although its pretty much OK now (with lots of stretching etc), I'm being careful not to push the mileage too fast. Doing a mix of hill sessions, tempo runs and distance runs. Aiming for 14 miles next weekend, then a week snowboarding then back on it. Nutrition and hydration is something I've never really nailed. Not too important on half marathon distance really,I but will have to geyt more regimented about it I think. Also the metal side of life is something I should get stronger at. It always turns into a battle of two minds. At least Manchester marathon is flat! Best wishes Andy |

Four days to go to the marathon now! First crack at it for me. Training has gone OK I think, normal collections of aches and muscle soreness has mostly gone after a couple of weeks of taper. Pretty apprehensive though to be honest! I just hope it's not too hot. Gordon and anyone else running Manchester, good luck, hope you achieve your goals.
All the best Andy |
