The Anglesey half marathon was held on Sunday 5th March. The first time I've run this race, unfortunately coming back from an IT band injury, so a lack of training in the month beforehand (I only ran about 10 miles in February) Weather was decidedly damp - the rain was running down the roads, standing water everywhere, and was pretty soaked after a couple of miles. The route starts on the mainland side of the bridge, straight over to the island, then through the town of Menai Bridge. From there, a long, gently descending 4 mile run down to Beaumaris, past the castle there, and then out into the lanes beyond for a 3 or 4 mile loop. Back into Beaumaris, and then the long (ascending !) slog back the way you originally came, finishing in the town of Menai Bridge. As said, the conditions made it really hard going - add that to the fact that I've been nursing my knee and done minimal running in the last month, and I was quite happy to get round it in 2:10:11. Better than I expected. Really well organised and marshalled, and lovely support by the public too. Even out on the northern loop past Beaumaris, there were people standing outside their houses calling encouragement, which was greatly appreciated. (GRG staff : I've uploaded the route and made it public, but can't seem to be able to link to it. If you could oblige, it would be much appreciated). (GRG staff : I've also mis-spelt 'Anglesey' in the thread title. If you could amend please ...) |
