I have been getting running coaching for a while too improve my technique. My coach has given me e regime of calf and hamstring stretches, fairly hard ones to be done about 8 times a day and they have a had a marked effect, the pain is largly gone (and going day by day), which is nice. Anyway, reduced pace, mileage, wearing compression socks etc, masaging the area and religously stretching seems to be showing resolving it. Happy with that.

Thanks all. I do generally wear compression leggings when I run but not socks. Also I tend not to wear them after a run unless its a hard one like a race, half marthon distance etc. I shall look at those and see. I think I'll continue with reduced distance and pace and see how that goes for a few weeks. Just hoping that it doesn't get too bad boarding in about 5-6 weeks time. Find boarding can be pretty tough on my right achilles - the one I have problems with. Anti inflam gel before strapping in probably. I am getting bit concerned about getting enough training in for the marathon in April though. I guess if I take it steady in Jan and see how it goes.
Anyway, hope you all have a good xmas.
Cheers andy

I've had a niggly achilles for a couple of years but have found it's been much better lately when I've been reducing my pace. I can still run long (in fact, I'm running more miles than before) but just at a slower pace. It seems to have helped a lot. |

I guess I should, I rarely go to the quacks but maybe this time I should. How long di yours take to resolve? |

Thanks Tony. I fear you may be right. Having said that it does seem to be improving by drastically cutting mileage and pace as well as religiously stretching. Maybe a week or two break over Xmas and break the mtb out instead. Cheers Andy |

I have had a bit of niggling pain in my heel for a while which I exacerbated by doing a 15 mile run about a month ago. Ended up pretty painful. took 16 days off running and now that I have started running again the pain is much reduced. But first thing in the morning when I stand or for the first minute or so after standing from being stationary for a while, it hurts, but it clears within a minute or so. When I run it's not too bad provided I dont cane it but I can feel it in the background all the time. On the web it looks like Achilles Bursitis. It seems to be slowy fixing but pretty slowly. I have reduced mileage from about 20 miles a week to about 10 and pace by a minute a mile but with a marathon planned in April and snowboarding in feb and march, I'm keen not to blow my achilles up. Has anyone suffered similarly? if so how did it go and how long did it take to fix?
