Thanks Martin, I have only been running just over a year and for the first 6 months I couldn't do more than 3 miles each time without finishing a quivering wreak. I then tried heart monitor training and it took my running to another level. Now and again I do swap a HMT run with a pace type or hill run to give me variety. Of course all of this started as I wanted to lose some weight which I did, the running bug just kicked in later. |

Thanks Lou, I'm sure you will especially now the decent weather is here. It is just one of those weeks where my plans have been a little upside down so I've been running when I can at such time that I can squeeze them in. Hopefully next week I will be back to some structured training leading up to the Coventry run. Knees were a little tender this morning but that's just normal for me when I do over 9 miles, they are starting to ease off now and should be ok tomorrow after a stretch session and short hill run. Keep us up to date how you are progressing. |

Wow! I wish I could accidentally run an extra 5 miles (just noticed it was actually an extra 7!!)! Good luck with your races, I'm a novice but I'll get there. Cheers Lou |

There's me spouting on what you should and should not do for training and because it was so nice tonight I decided to go for a long slow run (around 9.20 min/mile). Now as you may know I am on wind down this week for the 10k Midland Lung Run, but also have the Coventry half in about four to five weeks time so I have been building up a long run along with doing some hill work for the 10k. Anyway I am currently running around 40 miles per 6 day week, so I have cut this week down to around 25 miles, so back to tonights slow run, I planned to go for 9 miles which is a little less than my longest to date which is 11.5 miles, anyway I was feeling good and just kept on jogging, in the end I had done 16.25 miles !!! I have already planned a complete rest day tomorrow which will be enforced, and a hill session on Friday morning with a small 3 mile jog on Saturday just to keep things fresh. I still will be well under my weekly total which I forecast will be just over 30 miles for the week including the 10k race itself. But it just shows that the right environment you can get a little carried away, hopefully not on a stretcher. But it does means that after this weekend I can concentriate on increase in pace over the 13 miles with probably a mile added on before and after for warm up/cool down quicker than I had expected. |
