Hi Derek,

Thank for the advise. Well i've done all i can now. No more running now until the race. Just a few gentle walks along the beach with the dog just to keep me loose. Feeling pretty good about the race and i hoping to finish around the 90 minute mark, which i know is not fast but good for me. Its looking like its not going to be quite as hot as predicted but i have brought a bottle belt which i will fill with a energy drink. Been drinking plenty of water, eating pasta and No alcohol for the last week. Good luck to anyone else doing the race let you know how it went.

Good luck John, don't forget drink lots of water the day before, and carb load a couple of days beforehand (pasta and the like) only sip an hour before the race otherwise you may get stitch especially if you start off too quick.

I have raced the Coventry Half Marathon about 5 weeks ago when we had that first really hot Sunday plus a 10 miler the sunday after and if I was you I would take a non fizzy carb drink to sip with you, also take full advantage of the water stations, only if it means wetting your mouth and throwing the rest over your head.

I always take a cap in hot weather as it does two things, one to protect your eyes from the sun, but more importantly I soak it in cold water before I start and at the water stations replenish the dampness with the water supplied. (Cups are ok but bottles if supplied are much better for this).

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I did do a 7 miler last night and it was good. I felt a bit tired around the 6 mile mark but pushed on and finished well. Im gonna do a couple more 3 or 4 mile runs next week then rest. I just hope it not to hot as the start time for the race is 11.15, which i think is a little late for summer.

Got up so early this morning Marge even the weather hadn't woken up :-)

Managed to complete an easy 6.5 miler with hills in 55 minutes and when I got back in at 05:20, twenty minutes later it woke up and started to rain.

Result !!!!!!

Hi John,

I think you now need to focus on the positives at this stage as it's a bit late to increase mileage and it would be counterproductive as you will feel exhausted nearer the day. If I was you try and get at least three runs in, they don't need to be 7 milers and take it at an easy pace.

The race will increase your adrenalin but with the small amount of mileage under your belt just go for finishing the distance and don't be caught up with the race pace, position yourself near the back of the starting pack and let people overtake you no matter what age they are, you will find if you take it at an easy pace all the way round you will pick one or two off as they fail.

Also when you get to a water station don't try to run and drink the water because you will spill most of it, and most of all enjoy the day, better to finish than not to finish at all.

Hi All,

Back in March i entered the new forest 10 mile run. At that time i was running 15 miles a week a 7 mile, and two 4 miles and that has been carrying on until about 4 weeks ago. Since then i have struggled to run more than once a week and normally about 4 miles at 8.35p/m. This is not because i of injury i just havent had the time. The race is now only 10 days away and i am starting to panic. Has anyone got any ideas regarding what i should do until then. My plan is to run 7 miles tonight or tomorrow and then another 7 miles on monday or tuesday and then just rest.

Any help or ideas would be very greatfully recieved.

John
