Although I wouldn't recommend it long term, its sometimes used to reduce muscle soreness after a race, expecially if you are racing again the next day. Also used before an ultra run to mask/reduce the soreness during the race. Having said that I'm sure i saw a recent study showing it had little or no effect.

Hi Philip,

I would have thought the opposite - you could injure yourself without realising, and continue running on it thus making it worse?

Taking ibuprofen long term is not a good idea anyway, as it can cause major stomach issues, such as ulcers and bleeding.

Kind regards,

 Ian

Is it correct that you should take ibruprofen before and after a long run/walk,to stop muscle aches.?
