Hey guys!

I smoked 20 a day for 9 years, stopped cold turkey.

Three years later ran 50 marathons in 56 days through Europe for charity. (i mean ran as well)

Well done for stopping everyone, best decision i ever took!

Thanks for your comments and advice, will definately carry on and hopefully breathing will improve.Peter with regards to your advice,i have up untill now never suffered with (smokers) cough or bronchial problems, hopefully i have quit smoking in time before its too late.

With regards to copd, does this affect all smokers or a percentage?.

Philip

You've been smoking for many years and running for 11 weeks - give yourself a chance!

You might want to google something called powerbreathe. I don't use it myself but it has rave reports on another forum from people who need to regulate/improve their breathing.

One step at a time - try running for x minutes and forget about the distance for a while. Then add a minute or two each week...

Good luck

Hi guys are there any ex smokers (heavy)ie 25 plus a day over many years??.that are now running 10miles plus?.after kicking the habit, how long did it take before you started to breathe easier over any distance,9 weeks into smoke free zone, but still struggle with breathing when i start jogging,ok up to 1 mile. But trying to go further distance start to struggle, puffing billy.I am ok doing fast walks 4.5mph up to 14 miles so far, distance walking no probs, but soon as i up the speed breaths get deeper.Have been exercising 11 weeks now, average 12 miles week.
