First 10k Run This Sat & I Have Bad Knee Pain....

I've rested my leg for nearly two weeks and the knee/thigh pain has gone, trouble is, I ran awkwadly because of the pain in my knee/thigh and two days after the race my right foot became really painful along the outside, no swelling or sigh of ingury on the outside, but there was a really sharpe pain everytime I pushed it forward or back and the creaked.....a week later and it is easing off, I just really want to back out there, felt really motivated after the race and now I'm just sat around waiting......and hoping that I will be able to run again......

Thank you eveyone, after a week of rest and the confidence that I would still be fit enough to run, I have just finished my first ever offical 10k race and I'm over the moon.......only started running last September so I'm really pleased......leg held up most of the way, last couple of K it started to hurt, but I'm sat foot up with an ice pack now and that's where I shall stay for a while......but I do have a massive smile on my face!!!! thanks again...

You definately wont lose fitness in the week! Youve put in good miles, the rest will do you good and prepare you for the race! See how you feel Saturday morning, but dont risk it if its not right, its not worth long term injury! Im sure youll be fine have a great race!

thank you Luke, it's feeling a little better this evening, was going to go for a little run, but have taken your advice and decided to rest up till Saturday, I was worried about what not running this week would do to my fitness, and feel much better now I've read your post, thanks again...

Bad luck Susie.  If your race is this Saturday then you won't lose any fitness by resting this week (and if you keep training then you may injure yourself more and be out of the race completely).  Best to rest up - lots of RICE - and stretches, then see how you feel on Saturday morning.

thank you for you advice, I'm so upset, did my most comfortable 6 mile run yet last Saturday and was really looking foward to the race, fingers crossed with more rest it might be ok for Saturday, thanks again

Hi Susie

I have run when I have had some aches. But you seem to have quite bad pain, so I don't think you should run. The advice is for RICE which is rest, ice the affected part (which I never do) compression and elevation. Maybe you could cross-train, swimming or whatever doesn't hurt. Then on Saturday you can decide whether to run or not. Good luck.

Hi.....I'm after some adivce......I have run a couple of six mile runs by myself but I have my first 10k race this Saturday.  Over the last few weeks I have been putting in good milege, running three times a week between 3 and 5 miles at a time.  Last Saturday I did a practice 6 mile run and my leg was fine.  Sunday morning I couldn't put me foot to the floor without getting a really bad pain in my knee and thigh.  This has happened before, but not as bad and has gone away after a couple of days rest.  This time though it's worse and three days on I still can't run on it......I'm worried about the race, shall I just rest all week and run Saturday without any practice this week.....or shall I run through the pain and put in some practice.....
