Spectacular views are a great reward for a challenging climb

The majority of our Gold standard recommend routes have great views, but we have picked out a selection of the most spectacular of these. Most of these will be off-road and some are off the beaten track and can only be reached by foot.

Sometimes the views involve a good deal of uphill running but spectacular views are a great rewards for a challenging climb - the views from the top are always worth it when you get there!

Our Top 10 Routes With a View

These are our top 10 favourite routes with a view from around the UK. Each one has been selected from the Good Run Guide database and has a detailed route guide with a custom map and directions.

Sugar Loaf Slog - 5.21 miles

A cross-country run over the open access land of the Brecon Beacons National Park visiting the top of the Sugar Loaf Mountain at 598 metres.

Aber Falls - 4.11 miles

A lovely trail run which visits the splendid Aber Falls (Rhaeadr Fawr in Welsh) as well as exploring the pretty valley and taking in views over to the coast.

Dodd Forest Trails - 4.22 miles

This extremely challenging trail route features good tracks throughout with spectacular views as you wind around Dodd Forest and Hill with an optional lung busting ascent to Dodd Summit.

Llyn y Fan Fach - 5.45 miles

This is a very challenging cross-country route only to be attempted on a clear day, not only to avoid hazards, but to appreciate the stunning views. This route is used for the annual Llyn Y Fan Fell Race.

Mam Tor from Castleton - 5.70 miles

This Peak Disrict route involves a demanding ascent via pretty Cave Dale but offers fantastic views across the dales from Mam Tor, the 'Mother Mountain'.

Scar House Reservoir Circuit - 4.30 miles

In spite of being amongst some high peaks and spectacular scenery, this is a relatively easy and simple to follow circuit of the reservoir.

Stoodley Pike Longer Stagger - 5.27 miles

Make no mistake this is a challenging run up to the imposing Stoodley Pike Monument. The route starts from Todmorden and features a section of canal, quiet lanes, trails and fell paths.

Uley Bury Hill Fort from Dursley - 7.05 miles

This is a very challenging but also very scenic route using part of the Cotswold Way Long Distance footpath and returning via fields, woods, quiet lanes and finally a section of road. You will get superb views from atop Cam Long Down and Uley Bury Hill Fort.

Otley Views - 3.37 miles

A fairly short, but nevertheless quite challenging, run with good views over not just Otley, but Simons Seat, Norwood Top, Almscliffe Crag and even York Minister.

Osmington Horse - 4.66 miles

A lovely run that circles the Osmington White Horse which is cut into Osmington Hill opposite Weymouth Bay. There is one fairly hard climb but the views over the bay and the Isle of Portland are well worth the effort.
