The Hambleton Peninsular route is a pleasant run at any time of the year. Obviously it is always going to be more scenic on a bright day, but even in dull conditions it makes a nice and easy to follow run. The peninsular is like an island in the middle of Rutland Water, so you will be surrounded by water and views across the reservoir for most of the time. Apart from just under a mile of country lanes, the rest is on a good and popular cycling track. Dogs should be kept on leads. Rutland Water is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Europe and is located in Rutland, England’s smallest county. Rutland Water was built in the 1970's to supply water to the growing populations and industry in the East Midlands utilising water from the lower reaches of the Nene and Welland. |
